A Bit More About Me...

I love to knit.

I do! I find it incredibly relaxing to knit, purl, knit, purl… but please don’t confuse the love of knitting with being any good at it what so ever. My knitting skills are very limited, but I enjoy playing with colorful yarn and pretending I can actually create something more than a scarf.

I’m afraid of puppets.

I know this is pretty odd, but, none the less, very true. I’m not quite sure if I was born this way or if it’s a fear that developed early in life. However, I have vivid memories of a small five or six-year-old little girl watching Sesame Street with a squinty-sideways glance and inwardly cringing, “please end, please end, please end…!” The absolute worst offenders have always been, and will always be the Muppets. The Muppets scare the ever loving bejesus out of me, and there’s just no getting over it. My oldest son knows it and, if they come on, he quickly yells “Mommy don’t look at the puppets!” Honestly, I’m thankful for the heads-up.

The sounds of someone chewing ice drives me B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

It was about two months into our engagement and my, now husband, was chewing ice in the car when I reached the breaking point. I like to think that I made some funny quip about how that sound makes my insides cringe, but I’m pretty sure I just blurted a twitchy, “can you please stop that... NOW!” I don’t even think I knew it bothered me as much as it did until that moment. Thankfully he obliged, but our son takes after ice-chomping Daddy. It’s a struggle.

I'm not so secretly OCD about keeping the cushions and pillows on my sofa straight.

Some people try to hide the fact that they have an inner desire (nay a need) to keep pillows in their upright positions, but, I own it. Truthfully, I’d love to have my house be “show ready” every minute, of every day, but with three kids and two dogs - that’s highly unlikely. In the past, I could easily get wrapped up in the tidying/organizing (like a LOT), and I’ve come a long way from that. So since I can’t focus on everything, I turn to the couch. Every night before bed I do my little shiatsu massage/pillow karate technique to fluff the cushions, and there they happily remain… until about 7:18 am the next morning.

My favorite comedian is Brian Regan.

If you haven’t heard of Brian Regan, PLEASE do yourself a favor and go download his first album “Brian Regan Live” (from 1997). This routine is nearly 20 years old but still relevant and hilarious. It’s good, clean, laugh-out-loud humor, and five minutes in I was hooked.  The “You too and stuff” bit is so relatable, and I end up crying, laughing every time. It’s good to laugh!

I have watched every single minute, of every single episode of The Real Housewives of New York City.

I am fascinated by these women! I know that it’s not the most healthy thing I could be watching, but I am utterly enthralled. I like seeing what they wear, and the shenanigans are very entertaining. With that said, I love watching Bethany Frankel. I don’t typically agree with the method, but it’s so refreshing to hear her perspective. She says out loud what the inner voices in our head think! Also, I respect her career - how could you not? Early on, it was clear that Bethany was very driven, and it’s pretty inspiring to see how she believed in herself enough to keep trying, keep working, keep dreaming until BAM - it happened. What she did took talent, guts and a WHOLE lot of hustle. Skinny on girl!

My all-time favorite song is “Walk like a man” by Frankie Valli.

Growing up, my Dad and I went to old car shows a lot, so I was more familiar with The Beach Boys, Bobby Darin and, of course, Frankie Valli than the average middle-schooler. When I was in fourth grade, my school was having a talent show, and 10-year-old Jordan was NOT afraid to get up on stage in front of a few hundred people. When it came to picking a song to lip sing, it was a no-brainer. I remember having a bit of a flub with the music on my first run, so I got a mulligan. The lights went up; the music came on, and I was into it! Since then I have remained an uber-fan and seen Mr. Valli in concert twice… one time I even got to touch his hand!

Cooking is not my favorite.

We’re a family of five (FIVE!), but I don’t cook. Ok, I cook a little - breakfast gets made, lunches are assembled, snacks are available but when it comes to breaking out the pots and pans to cook dinner… I fall a little flat. I mean, if I’m not careful my poor children are going to think that cooking means Daddy frantically runs out to Pei Wei or Whole Foods at 6:15 pm to forage and provide sustenance for his young.

My current obsession is my new “Inspire” creative journaling Bible.

Adult coloring has made a significant impact on both the artistically inclined, and those not so creatively gifted. It is the newest trend in stress relieving activities and I. Am. HOOKED. However, on a recent trip to Barnes & Noble, I discovered The Inspire Bible which is a unique way to incorporate coloring, with prayer and meditation over God’s word. Honestly, I struggle with prayer. In other aspects of my life, it’s so easy for me to express myself, but I fumble to find my voice in prayer. I’m working on that, and I’ve found that introducing a creative aspect to the process is helpful.

What am I most excited about introducing in the blog?

This is a tough one, but right now, at this moment, I am most excited to share “My Favorite Things.” I put a lot of time and energy into finding just the right "thing" that rings my bell, so to speak. Whether it’s a for the kids, baby bottles, a gift, or a handbag I do the research before I purchase things, and I look forward to sharing these top picks with you. We all lead super busy lives, and, hopefully, these favorites will make your life a little easier, or at the very least bring some color and whimsy through the front door.

So that’s me in a nutshell! For those of you who already know me, I hope you learned something new and for all of my new friends, thank you for taking the time to read this! I am so grateful for your support, and I sincerely hope you’ll stay with me.

Lattes & Living is, officially, launched!
